The Seven has been selected as The ACT Book of the Year!
I attended the awards ceremony at the Tuggeranong Library, where the Minister for the Arts, Tara Cheyne announced the selection of The Seven.
My thanks to the judges, the ACT government for supporting writers and other creatives through grants and prizes, and to ACT Libraries for hosting the event.
Congratulations to my fellow short-listed authors!
In some ways, this award brings me full circle, as it’s the second time I’ve won it. Way back in 2011, my first book, the non-fiction The River won.
Back then I was an absolute beginner, and the award really helped boost my self-belief. (And the $10,000 prize money helped buy time to complete my second book!).
As I said at the awards ceremony for The Seven, that first award, plus a subsequent grant from the ACT government, helped set me on my way to making a career out of writing.
So thank you!!
