The television version of Scrublands premiered to a wonderful reception in Australia on the streamer STAN on November 16th –  and broadcast  shortly after in the UK on BBC 4 and iPlayer and in New Zealand. Huge thanks to the team at Easy Tiger for bringing it to the screen! It’s a wonderful re-imagining of the book, directed by Greg McLean with the script developed under the leadership of Felicity… Read More »Scrublands Premieres

The Tilt wins Danger Prize

  • by

The Tilt has won the 2023 Danger Prize for Crime Fiction, announced at an awards dinner at the BAD Sydney Crime Writers Festival on November the second. This is second time I have won the Danger Prize, after sharing it in 2021 with former homicide detective Gary Jubelin. Back then there was only one prize, and my fiction book ‘Trust’ shared it with Gary’s non-fiction memoir ‘I Catch Killers’. Since… Read More »The Tilt wins Danger Prize

Great news! The BBC has acquired the Australian television/streaming production of Scrublands!! I’m very happy about this – and very happy for all the talented people at Easy Tiger who have done so much and so well to bring the novel to the screen. Can’t wait to see it! Ned Kelly Shortlist

  • by

The Ned Kelly Awards are Australia’s oldest and most prestigious awards for crime writing – so I’m pretty stoked about The Tilt being shortlisted for the 2023 award for Best Crime Fiction. It’s quite the honour, particularly when you consider how many very fine crime novels are now being published in Australia each year. And I’m in some classy company here: Aoife Clifford (When We Fall), Jane Harper (Exiles), Sally… Read More »Ned Kelly Shortlist

Notable Awards

This is a very generous hometown honour – The Tilt being shortlisted for the ACT’s Notable Book Awards 2023. The awards are run by Marion – which is the new moniker for the ACT Writers Centre. Marion provides a great support network and resources for Canberra region authors. I’m particularly pleased to be shortlisted alongside my old mate and journalism colleague Paul Daley and his luminous book, Jesustown.

The Tilt Shortlisted!

  • by

This is a great compliment – The Tilt is shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards for 2023 in the General Fiction category. I love that the ABIAs  have two fiction categories – Literary and General. This allows for recognition of popular books – the ones readers love –  that are often excluded from literary awards. I’m very proud of The Tilt and that is in such good company. It… Read More »The Tilt Shortlisted!

Scrublands filming begins!

  • by

It’s official: production is underway on the streaming/television production of Scrublands – and I could not be happy with the cast, the crew and the production company! Filming is taking place in regional Victoria on the four-part series. It’s being made by production company Easy Tiger in association with Vic Screen. Easy Tiger is the company behind such beloved Australian series as Jack Irish (based on Peter Temple’s crime novels)… Read More »Scrublands filming begins!

Publication day!! The hardback of ‘Dead Man’s Creek’ is in UK and European bookstores from January the 5th. And talk about perfect timing – The London Times has named it Crime Book of the Month, together with an extraordinary review from critic Mark Sanderson… “This fantastic crime drama has three timelines: 1943, when Italian prisoners of war are at work in the Barmah-Millewa forest; 1973, when 15-year-old Tessa Waters falls… Read More »Book of the Month
