Notable Awards

  • by

This is a very generous hometown honour – The Tilt being shortlisted for the ACT’s Notable Book Awards 2023. The awards are run by Marion – which is the new moniker for the ACT Writers Centre. Marion provides a great support network and resources for Canberra region authors. I’m particularly pleased to be shortlisted alongside my old mate and journalism colleague Paul Daley and his luminous book, Jesustown.

The Tilt Shortlisted!

  • by

This is a great compliment – The Tilt is shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards for 2023 in the General Fiction category. I love that the ABIAs  have two fiction categories – Literary and General. This allows for recognition of popular books – the ones readers love –  that are often excluded from literary awards. I’m very proud of The Tilt and that is in such good company. It… Read More »The Tilt Shortlisted!

Scrublands filming begins!

  • by

It’s official: production is underway on the streaming/television production of Scrublands – and I could not be happy with the cast, the crew and the production company! Filming is taking place in regional Victoria on the four-part series. It’s being made by production company Easy Tiger in association with Vic Screen. Easy Tiger is the company behind such beloved Australian series as Jack Irish (based on Peter Temple’s crime novels)… Read More »Scrublands filming begins!

Book of the Month

Publication day!! The hardback of ‘Dead Man’s Creek’ is in UK and European bookstores from January the 5th. And talk about perfect timing – The London Times has named it Crime Book of the Month, together with an extraordinary review from critic Mark Sanderson… “This fantastic crime drama has three timelines: 1943, when Italian prisoners of war are at work in the Barmah-Millewa forest; 1973, when 15-year-old Tessa Waters falls… Read More »Book of the Month

Here it is – the cover to the Australian/New Zealand edition of my new crime novel, The Tilt, to be published on October the 5th. It will be published in early January in the UK and elsewhere with a different title: Dead Man’s Creek. I absolutely love this cover. A huge thanks to the designer Luke Causby, who has designed all the Australian books, including the smaller B-format editions. I… Read More »Cover reveal – The Tilt

New UK Book contract

Wildfire books in the UK have done a brilliant job publishing my first four crime books – ‘Scrublands’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Trust’ in the Martin Scarsden/Mandalay Blonde series, and ‘Opal Country’, the first in the Nell Buchanan/Ivan Lucic series. Now they’ve signed me up for another two – I could not be happier! Here’s how it was reported in the UK trade magazine ‘The Bookseller’…. Wildfire nets two more in Hammer’s… Read More »New UK Book contract

I’m very proud of this: Treasure & Dirt has been longlisted for the Australian Book Industry Association (ABIA) General Fiction Book of the Year award for 2022. I’m honoured to be in such fine company. Thanks to all at publishers Allen & Unwin, and a huge thanks to the judges! I might be wrong about this, but I’m told that part of the award is to recognise not just the… Read More »ABIA longlist for Treasure & Dirt

Shortlisted for the Indies!

  • by

Australia’s Independent bookstores are a vital part of the country’s cultural fabric –  championing Australian authors and nourishing their communities through the dark days of covid. We owe them so much, writers and readers alike, from the large inner-city institutions to small country towns. So it is with considerable pride that I have learnt that my book ‘Treasure & Dirt’ has been shortlisted for the 2022 Indie Awards, alongside three… Read More »Shortlisted for the Indies!

UK Publication!

January 6th is publication day for the Hardback edition of Opal Country in the UK and Ireland. Yee hah!! Opal Country is the same book as Treasure & Dirt – just a different title for different territories – so don’t go out and buy both. It’s already getting a good reception in the UK. The Times has selected it as Crime Book of the Month, with reviewer Mark Sanderson stating… Read More »UK Publication!
