Scrublands Premieres

  • by

The television version of Scrublands premiered to a wonderful reception in Australia on the streamer STAN on November 16th –  and broadcast  shortly after in the UK on BBC 4 and iPlayer and in New Zealand. Huge thanks to the team at Easy Tiger for bringing it to the screen! It’s a wonderful re-imagining of the book, directed by Greg McLean with the script developed under the leadership of Felicity… Read More »Scrublands Premieres

BBC to screen Scrublands

Great news! The BBC has acquired the Australian television/streaming production of Scrublands!! I’m very happy about this – and very happy for all the talented people at Easy Tiger who have done so much and so well to bring the novel to the screen. Can’t wait to see it! This is the BBC announcement: “The BBC has acquired new Australian crime drama Scrublands, based on the award-winning novel written by… Read More »BBC to screen Scrublands

Cover reveal – The Tilt

  • by

Here it is – the cover to the Australian/New Zealand edition of my new crime novel, The Tilt, to be published on October the 5th. It will be published in early January in the UK and elsewhere with a different title: Dead Man’s Creek. I absolutely love this cover. A huge thanks to the designer Luke Causby, who has designed all the Australian books, including the smaller B-format editions. I… Read More »Cover reveal – The Tilt

UK Publication!

  • by

January 6th is publication day for the Hardback edition of Opal Country in the UK and Ireland. Yee hah!! Opal Country is the same book as Treasure & Dirt – just a different title for different territories – so don’t go out and buy both. It’s already getting a good reception in the UK. The Times has selected it as Crime Book of the Month, with reviewer Mark Sanderson stating… Read More »UK Publication!

Libraries top ten!

  • by

I was so chuffed to see this – Scrublands and Treasure & Dirt topping the list of e-books borrowed from Australian public libraries in 2021. Like an early Christmas present! A huge part of this ranking is due to OverDrive, the company that runs the Libby digital app used by Australian libraries. They featured Scrublands for a couple of weeks in September as part of their ‘Together We Read’ campaign.… Read More »Libraries top ten!

Taiwan and France

  • by

Scrublands continues to be published around the world in translation. Here are the covers from Taiwan and France; it was published in both territories in May 2021. It does my head in,  imagining the effort of translators, editors and designers to convert my work for non-English speaking audiences, together with sales, marketing and publicity teams. It’s such an honour.Huge thanks top all of them! I love the idea of people… Read More »Taiwan and France

Sydney Writers’ Festival

  • by

It’s really only after the covid year of 2020 that I’ve come to realise how important writers festivals and similar events are to me. I always enjoyed them, but also thought they were a bit like the cherry on the cake. Now I think they’re far more important, almost essential. Writers spend so much time by ourselves, those solitary hours of working. It’s something I enjoy, but you can have… Read More »Sydney Writers’ Festival

Scrublands published in Italy

  • by

Scrublands has been published in Italy this week by the wonderful Neri Pozza press. It’s called ‘Scrublands Noir’ and is presented with this wonderfully minimalist cover. Huge thanks to all concerned, especially translators Annamaria Biavasco and Valentina Guani. Such an amazing skill! Crime website Contorni di Noir says: “Supported by magnificent prose and a fast pace, Scrublands noir places Chris Hammer among the most original contemporary authors of noir and… Read More »Scrublands published in Italy

Book of the Month

  • by

LoveReading styles itself as the UK’s leading book recommendation website, so I’m very happy and grateful that the team there has chosen Silver as one of its six books of the month. Great timing with Silver published in paperback in the UK. Here’s what the site’s Reviews Editor Liz Robsinson writes: “A cracking and class-act of a crime novel stuffed full of atmosphere and detail which skilfully sits alongside a… Read More »Book of the Month

A Scrublands read-along!

  • by

This is such a good idea – I haven’t heard of it before. The Tandem Collective has organised a read-along of Scrublands, lasting a week, with targets for each day. This is happening in the UK. As I understand it, many of those participating are booksagrammers and other high profile readers. I’ll be interested to see what they think about it!
